KEY POINTS

Transverse fractures mid body are commonest pattern of capitate fracture
The capitate, lunate and radius should be nicely aligned on the lateral
Follow the cortical margin of the scaphoid carefully.
Don’t forget the tubercle
Look for subtle radial cortical irregularities,
especially on the lateral in children
Look carefully at the distal radial articular surface in adults
Look carefully at the base of the 5th metatarsal for hamate fracture.
Oblique helpful. Hook fractures are difficult
Identify all CMC articulations in M type pattern
A dorsal bone fragment of the lateral is the clue to triquetral fracture
