CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES

      • Osteochondral fracture
      • Fragmentation of articular surfaces
      • Intra-articular bony debris
      • Early stages can mimic OA but ..
      • Usually rapidly progressive
      • Excess callus formation
      • Joint subluxation
      • Deformity
      • Two types Hypertrophic and Atrophic
      • Bone resorption in atrophic type

      • Diabetes - foot
      • Syringomyelia – upper limb especially shoulder
      • Congenital insensitivity to pain – lower limb
      • Tabes dorsalis – knee, hip, ankle, L-spine
      • Chronic alcoholism - foot
      • Myelomeningocoele – ankle and foot
      • Leprosy – hands, feet, lower limb
